Art Xploration Exhibit at Boswell Art Gallery – Kaskaskia College

October 2, 2024 - November 8, 2024

The Kaskaskia College Dr. Dee and Sue Boswell Art Gallery is currently showcasing works by local artist Martha Iler, based in Greenville, IL, alongside pieces from the gallery’s permanent collection. The exhibition runs from October 2 through November 8.

Here is an artist statement of Martha Iler about a couple of her paintings hung up on display: “When I first started painting, I was interested in color and light, vibrancy and shadow, reflections and smooth surfaces. As I grew as an artist, I started working with figures, still interested in the light and shadow of the forms. Now, as I have come to this place in my life, I am interested in telling a story with the image or bringing an issue to light using the figure, human emotion, and our common experience. I hope to show more than a painting, more than just beauty, to show a narrative that touches something deep inside. I want my viewers to see their own experience and grief perhaps, and realize they are not alone in that darkness.”

Besides Martha’s works, there will also be works from the permanent collection on display. One can experience different media such as glass, ceramics, photography, and more here. Some artists who have their works in our permanent collection are Bob Pazderka, Betty Shew, Frank Davidson, Jennifer R. H., and Barbara Kohl.

Hours for the Kaskaskia College Dee and Sue Boswell Art Gallery are Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The gallery is also open for special events and by appointment. For an appointment or more information, please call Dillon Whitten, Art Gallery Attendant/Technician, at 618-545-3444.
