Dorothy Mae Scott, 88, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 7:20 pm February 8, 2025 at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon. She was born October 31, 1936 in Karnak, Illinois to the late Frank and Zona (Little) Altenberger. Dorothy married Charles C. Scott on October 26, 1955 in Mount Vernon. He preceded her in death on April 26, 1991.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Dave Scott and Debbie Graham of Mount Vernon; daughter, Charlene Scott of Opdyke, Illinois; grandchildren, Jamie Bryan and husband, Chad of Salem, Illinois and Cody Bannister and wife, Jordan of McLeansboro, Illinois; and great-grandchildren, Caitlynne Bryan and Zoey Bannister.

In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her stepmother, Ada Altenberger; brothers, David, Bill, and Donald Altenberger; and sister, Pauline Minor.

Dorothy was of the Baptist faith. She was a faithful member of Casey Avenue Baptist Church. Dorothy will be remembered as a devoted mother, treasured grandmother, and dear friend to many.

A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, February 13, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon with Pastor Jerry Montgomery officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Dorothy’s honor to Casey Avenue Baptist Church or Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
