Alvie “Joe”  Burk, 93, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 7:10 PM Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at Nature Trail Health Care in Mount Vernon. He was born October 13, 1931 in Mena, Arkansas. Joe married Cora Burk on October 22, 1950 in Piggott, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on April 10, 1998.
Joe is survived by his daughter, Catheran (Burk) Ownes and husband, Darrell of Mount Vernon; granddaughter, Tracy Crouch and husband, Andy of Salem, Illinois; grandson, Terry Owens and wife, Dawn of Anderson, South Carolina; and great-grandchildren, Chelsea Crouch, Cory Crouch, Zane Owens, and Channing Owens.
In addition to his beloved wife, Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth (Bodine) Burk; father, Clarence Edward Burk; stepfather, Carol Casada; and his brothers and sisters.
Joe was a United States Army Veteran who received a Purple Heart from the Korean War and was a part of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 28 in Mount Vernon. He was the founder and past president for many years of the Antique Power Club in Salem. He loved to collect antique tractors. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
A Visitation will be held, Friday, January 3, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm with  Mr. Randy Steel officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Memorials may be made in Joe’s honor to the American Legion or Disabled American Veterans (DAV).
