MT. VERNON – The State Fire Marshal is investigating a structure fire that happened Monday night on Richview Road in Mt. Vernon.

The Jefferson County Fire Protection District says their firefighters along with several other area fire departments and emergency responders arrived on scene around 8:40 p.m.

A caller reported fire in an attached garage with it spreading to the house with everyone out of the home.

Firefighters found the attached garage with heavy fire that shortly worked through the roof and was extending to the adjacent living space. A water supply from a hydrant across the road was established causing Richview Road to be shut down during the fire.

Crews began outside and inside operations at the same time utilizing three hand lines to stop the fires spread. The garage portion of the house was a total loss. The rest of the house had smoke damage, with fire damage being held at the kitchen area that was adjacent to the garage.

No injuries or deaths were reported.
