MOUNT VERNON — Walter “Bud” Taylor Hayes, 82, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at his home.

He was born May 29, 1941, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Walter F. and Annetta R. (Decker) Hayes.  On February 21, 2004, in Mt. Vernon, he married Tracy Holzhauer, and she survives.

Bud was a truck driver for many years prior to his retirement, and he loved being outdoors and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, Tracy Hayes, he is survived by three daughters, Patricia Sechrest and husband Vern of Mannington, West Virginia, Paige Oltmann and significant other Graham Schloesser of Troy, Illinois, and Karlee Williams and husband Dylan of Nashville, Illinois; five grandchildren, Christopher Tillery, Brandon Tillery, Noah Wonch, Kashton Williams, Bristol Williams; brother, Gary Hayes and wife Phyllis; sisters, Barbara Payne and husband Connie, Thelma Parrish, Carolyn Badgett, Janet Sandy, Marolyn “Mert” Corso, and Sunday McKenzie; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathleen Hayes; brother, Jeffery Hayes; and brothers-in-law, Deon Parrish, Gary Badgett, Jerry Sandy, and Richard McKenzie.
