JEFFERSON COUNTY — A reminder to motorists who planned to travel eastbound Interstate 64 in Jefferson County, IDOT has closed a portion of the interstate in that area between mile markers 60 and 73 for repairs.

That stretch of interstate is expected to reopen around 5 o’clock tonight. In the meantime; however, traffic is backed up on all the detour routes that are in place for this project.

Not only is traffic slow and backed up on I-64 in that area, but on U.S. 51 from Ashley to Richview, and IL 15 from Ashley to the interstate in Mt. Vernon.

If you’re traveling through any of those areas today make sure to give yourself extra time.
