JEFFERSON COUNTY — Organizers are reporting nearly 3,000 pounds of non-perishable food had been donated in Jefferson County toward the state-wide 100,000 Pounds Challenge to Fight Food Insecurity.
According to former Mt. Vernon Mayor David Keen, 275 pounds of food was dropped off Tuesday at Angels on Assignment in Mt. Vernon. Combined with earlier donations, that adds up to 2,759 pounds of food that will stay right here in Jefferson County.
The goal for this drive is 4,000 pounds or two tons of donated food. You can continue to donate toward this goal through April 29th. Districts 80 and 201 are collection locations as are Mt. Vernon City Hall and Angels on Assignment.
If you have items you need to be picked up for the food drive, you can contact Mt. Vernon Councilman Donte Moore at 618-242-4072 or David Keen at 618-316-9502.
