MOUNT VERNON — Barbara Jean Palmer, 94, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:07 am on April 11, 2024, at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born October 27, 1929, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late Harmon and Mabel (Williams) Farmer. Barbara married Billy Palmer on July 30, 1949, in Mount Vernon, Illinois. They were blessed with seventy years of marriage before he preceded her in death on October 6, 2019.

Barbara is survived by her son, Reif Palmer and wife, Stacey and Brent Palmer and wife, Stephanie, all of Mount Vernon, Illinois; granddaughters, ReAnne May and wife, McKenzie of Newburg, Indiana and Sara Peas and husband, Ryan of Port Orange, Florida; and nieces, Tammy Vance and husband, Ken, Gloria Sutherland and husband, Fred, Tracey Chiquete and husband, Ralph, Debbie Morley and husband, Carl, Kathy Brunson and husband, Brent, and Georgann Mayer and husband, Mark.

In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her sisters, Bonita Allred and Anna Holland, and stepfather, Percy Peterson.

Mrs. Palmer worked as a bookkeeper for Southern Illinois Clinic and retired from there. She was a member of the Mount Vernon AMVETS Auxiliary.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in Barbara’s honor to Bethel Memorial Cemetery.
