MOUNT VERNON — A 44-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested Monday after being shot in an apparent trespassing incident in the 11000 block of East Stone Road in Mt. Vernon.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, around 1:41 p.m. Monday, Mt. Vernon police officers and Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to that address on a report of a person trespassing and that a gun had been fired.
Upon arrival, officers detained Dewayne E. Corbett who was still on scene and was determined to be the offender.
It was confirmed a handgun was fired, by one of the victims, while the offender was attempting to force his way into the dwelling, after damaging the residence exterior.
Corbett received only very minor wounds and refused medical treatment.
He was arrested for felony trespassing and transported to the Jefferson County Jail to await the formal filing of charges and a pretrial detention hearing.
Further investigation revealed Corbett had allegedly tried entry to at least two other dwellings, before his attempted forced entry on E. Stone Rd.
