MOUNT VERNON — Linda Marlene Diel, 76, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away January 6, 2024 at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Missouri. She was born September 24, 1947 in Mount Vernon to the late James and Evelyn (Elliston) Morgan.

Linda is survived by her husband, Gary Diel of Woodlawn, Illinois; sons, Bill R. Scott and wife, Renee of Nason, Illinois, David Scott of Woodlawn, and James Carrol Diel of Woodlawn; grandchildren, Lyndsey Younger and husband, Cody, Libby Scott, Collin Diel, Julie Weemer, and Lucas Scott; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Mable Falsom and husband, Ward of Mount Vernon; brother, David Morgan and wife, Robyn Morgan of Belle Rive, Illinois; and sister-in-law, Robin Morgan.

In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her siblings, Marsha Crawford, Jeff Morgan, and Mark Morgan; and daughter-in-law, Amy Scott.

Linda was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a hard worker but also enjoyed her free time playing cards and Bingo. Linda will be deeply missed.

A Visitation will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will begin at 2:00 pm with Sammy Lane officiating.
