MOUNT VERNON — Jerry Melvin Wright, 73, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 8:14 am November 1, 2023 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He was born February 16, 1950 in Scheller, Illinois to the late Joseph and Mae (Laur) Wright.

Jerry is survived by his siblings, Danny Wright and wife, Cheryl of DuQuoin, Illinois, Diane Essary and husband, Franklin of Benton, Illinois, Randy Wright and wife, Hilda of Mount Vernon, and Elaine Wright of Scheller; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.  Jerry worked at Continental Tire for many years. He was an avid car collector and enjoyed watching westerns. Jerry enjoyed attending his nephews and great-nephews’ sporting events.

He will be missed. A Visitation will be held Friday, November 10, 2023, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 pm with Reverend Mark Wells officiating. Interment will follow at Bald Hill Cemetery in Scheller, Illinois.
