CENTRALIA — James “J.B.” Hayes, 82, of Centralia passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 at his brother’s home in Centralia.

He was born in Mt. Vernon, IL on March 8, 1941, the son of James Arthur & Wanda Marie (Fisher) Hayes.

Mr. Hayes was very family oriented.  He took care of his whole family, his Mom & Dad, his Brothers & Sister, and his Nieces & Nephews.  He was faithful to everyone and to everything he did.  He was a faithful member of Providence Church.  He was a faithful employee of Van Gay, Vanex , PPG paint factory for 56 years.  His greatest hobby, because he loved his family so much, was being the family genealogist.

Mr. Hayes was a Veteran, serving Honorably with the U. S. Marine Corps.

Mr. Hayes is survived by his: 3 Brothers:  Calvin Hayes & wife Dorris of Opdyke, Don Hayes of Belle Rive, Bill Hayes & wife Mary of Centralia; Several Nieces and nephews scattered throughout the country, whom he loved dearly and took care of and watched them grow up; One Niece:  Wendy Safford lived with J.B. for several years and he helped care for her.

Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by his Parents, by a Sister-Phyllis Jean Safford, by a Sister-in-law-Carolyn “Sue” Hayes, by 2 Nieces & 1 Nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, Oct. 20th at the Johnston Funeral Home in Ina with Robert Schlag officiating.  Burial will be in the Kirk Cemetery in Ina.  Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the Johnston Funeral Home in Ina.
