WAYNE COUNTY — Associate Judge Sonja L. Ligon has ordered a 47-year-old man to be held pending trial in a case charging him with multiple drug and weapons charges.

Under the new SafeT Act, Wayne County prosecutors filed a petition to deny pretrial release for Reggie Shemwell, and on Wednesday, Judge Ligon agreed.

Shemwell was charged Tuesday with two Class X felonies for delivery of between 400 and 900 grams of methamphetamine, two Class 2 felonies for using a vehicle or structure for the production of meth, four Class 3 felonies for being a felon in possession of a weapon and one for criminal fortification of a residence, as well as Class 4 felony possession of a controlled substance.

Shemwell’s arrest came after the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a home in Sims, Illinois, in connection to an investigation by the sheriff’s office.

Deputies report the defendant was observed outside the home but fled inside when he saw law enforcement.

Once he was detained, a search of the residence reportedly revealed approximately 1.2 pounds of methamphetamine was located along with 4 firearms, US currency, prescription pills, and digital scales.

At the time of his arrest last week, Shemwell was free on a $10,000 cash bond posted earlier this year in two separate Wayne County cases charging him with felony meth delivery, felony meth possession, and two counts of felony driving while license revoked.
