MOUNT VERNON — Joseph V. Morgan, 96 years and five months, of Boyd, passed away at 12:45 a.m., August 3, 2023, at Nature Trail Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Mt. Vernon.
He was born March 2, 1927, in Clay County, Illinois, to the late Perry and Bernice (Memmer) Morgan.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in the United States Army, and stationed in Okinawa, Japan, following a stopover at the docks in Pearl Harbor. After his service in the military, Joe worked in a variety of occupations and applied his skills in farming, factory work, and in security for Joy Manufacturing of Mt. Vernon. In his retirement years, Joe became an accomplished and talented wood craftsman.
Joseph Morgan is survived by his sons, Larry W. Morgan of Dix, and Ronnie J. Morgan of Kankakee; second wife, Stella Patterson (Puckett) of Kankakee; niece, Charlene R. Morgan of Mt. Vernon; nephew, Dale E. Morgan and wife Rosemary of Bluford; cousins, Sally M. Smith, Eddie L. Smith, and Edna K. Smith of Florida, and Clyde Hall and wife Virginia of Mt. Vernon.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents, Peter Memmer, Jr. and Rachel Memmer (Seesongood), and Harriet Ann Cook and Lewis Charles Morgan; brother, Charles E. Morgan; sister-in-law, Arlene Morgan; uncles, Willie J. Memmer, Frank F. Memmer and wife Hazel, George H. Memmer, and Johnny L. Memmer; aunts, Josephine K. Barnett (Memmer), Ellerea C. Hall (Memmer) and husband Clyde Hall, Sr.; his first wife, Betty J. Hutchins (Robison); and wife, Alice R. Morgan (Marteeny).
Funeral services for Mr. Morgan will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, with Jonathan Schnautz officiating. Burial will follow at Little Grove Cemetery in Walnut Hill, Illinois. Visitation will be held Monday, August 7, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.
