MOUNT VERNON — A crew from Alpha and Omega Construction out of Salem braved the extreme and dangerous heat Thursday to replace the roof on the home of a U.S. Army Veteran in Mt. Vernon.
According to General Manager Cory Norville, in partnership with Owens Corning Roof Deployment Project and Purple Hear Homes, an Alpha and Omega crew of about seven replaced the damaged roof on Alex Palmer’s home Thursday.
The Owens Corning Foundation is donating roofing materials and Alpha and Omega Construction is donating the labor.
The Salem contractor has worked on other projects benefitting Veterans, but the Palmer home is the first roof for this team project. Owens Corning and its Platinum contractors, however, have donated more than 450 new roofs across the country since 2016.
Norville says veterans give so much to the country; this is the least they could give back to them. A roof, he says, can be one of the most critical repairs on a home, and they hope this means Alex is given the peace of mind that he and his family are safe.
He notes Thursday was the Palmers’ wedding anniversary.
