WEST FRANKFORT — A 3-year-old boy reported missing Saturday afternoon from his West 7th Street home in West Frankfort was found dead a few hours later in a neighbor’s swimming pool.

West Frankfort Police Chief John Prudent tells us Wesley M. Yocum was reported missing around 1 p.m. Officers arrived at his home, spoke with his parents, and began searching the area for Wesley.

The West Frankfort Fire Department, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Franklin County Emergency Management and the 618 Search and Recovery Response Team also responded to help search for the boy.

At 2:40 p.m., Wesley was found in the neighbor’s swimming pool. He was unresponsive. Emergency personnel began performing CPR. Wesley was taken to Franklin Hospital in Benton where he was pronounced dead.

Chief Prudent says this case is considered open by the West Frankfort Police Department and the investigation is ongoing.
