JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 23-year-old Evansville, Indiana man was sentenced Thursday morning in Jefferson County Court to 80 years in prison for the 2022 shooting death of 46-year-old Cadias Jackson at his Dix, Illinois home.

A Jefferson County jury spent just 17 minutes to find Treyaveon Massie guilty of first-degree murder for Jackson’s shooting death. He’ll have to serve 100 percent of his sentence.

Massie was arrested along with 43-year-old Retha McIntire, also of Evansville. She pleaded guilty in May to first-degree murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. McIntire will have to serve 100 percent of her sentence, as well.

The two were arrested in September after Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to Jackson’s home of in the Rolling Meadows Trailer Park where they found him suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

He was transported to Crossroads Hospital where he ultimately died from his injuries.

The initial investigation revealed the offenders fled the scene in a white van with Indiana plates.

Sheriff’s Deputies and officers from Mt Vernon Police Department stopped the vehicle in Mt. Vernon and arrested Massie and McIntire.
McIntire was reportedly driving the white van when it fled the murder scene.
