CENTRALIA — A 22-year-old Georgia man is in the Marion County Jail after Centralia police arrested him in connection with two area burglaries and an unrelated sexual assault.
James Wooten was arrested Sunday for the alleged sexual assault of a woman he’d flagged down Saturday and asked for a ride to a residence where he’d been staying on Martin Luther King Drive in Centralia.
The woman reportedly agreed to go inside the home with Wooten, who allegedly choked her and sexually assaulted her by force. She was later able to talk Wooten into letting her use the bathroom and at that time she fled to the nearby Casey’s General Store to call for help.
She reportedly was crying and wasn’t wearing shoes or pants at the time. She was taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment.
Wooten was arrested for alleged aggravated battery and unlawful restraint and on two unrelated burglary charges dating back to April where multiple guns were reportedly taken.
He was also taken to SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital after apparently swallowing a number of drugs as police arrived. He was treated and released before being taken to the Marion County Jail.
