PINKNEYVILLE — Two Pinkneyville residents are in the Washington County Jail in connection with the death last summer of their three-month-old infant son.

According to the Illinois State Police, 21-year-old Logan Hutchings and 21-year-old Sophia Kelly have both been arrested for First Degree murder.

The infant had been admitted to a hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, and was discovered to have a skull fracture, along with multiple rib fractures, and was pronounced dead on June 14, 2022, as a result of those injuries.

On Tuesday, the States Attorneys Appellate Prosecutors office charged both parents with three counts each of First-Degree Murder.

ISP agents then arrested both Hutchings and Kelly. They were taken to the Washington County Jail with a $1 million bond each.

ISP DCI was assisted by DCFS, ISP Crime Scene Services, Pinckneyville Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, and the Appellate Prosecutors Office during this investigation.
