WAYNE COUNTY — Work on a Route 161 intersection is almost complete and was initially spurred by the community pushing a petition drive in response to a fatal crash at that location last year.

The intersection of Route 161 and Enterprise Road in Wayne County was the scene of a crash in April 2021 that claimed the life of a 14-year-old child.

The community responded with a petition drive seeking to have a 4-way stop put at the intersection.

Work began on that project in September and has not only added traffic lights and stop signs but also rumble strips on the east/west approaches.

While the traffic lights had been on backorder, they’ve been received and the contractor is expected to install them as soon as weather allows.
