JEFFERSON COUNTY A Jefferson County jury took approximately 30 minutes deliberating before returning a verdict of guilty this week on all counts against 38-year-old Mt. Vernon charged with home invasion, armed robbery, and armed violence.
Melvin Taylor was arrested in November 2020 after he and another man went into a residence in the 1500 block of Jones Street and battered two female occupants with a bat.
Both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment, with one reportedly being left blind in one eye. Mt. Vernon Police say property was taken from one of the victims.
48-year-old Mt. Vernon resident Dontae D. Harris was sentenced to 28 years in prison last month for his role in the home invasion and beatings.
Taylor is scheduled to be sentenced January 19th on his charges. He faces 12 to 60 years on the home invasion and armed robbery charges where the sentences are required to be consecutive to each other and at least 85 percent of the sentence will have to be served.
