CENTRALIA — Linda Darlene Jones, 77, of Centralia, passed away Monday, October 10, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Linda was born June 19, 1945, in Centralia, the daughter of Harold LeRoy Smith and Maude Ellen (Roper) Smith. She married Virgil Jones on September 1, 1963, at the Demaree Methodist Church in Centralia and he survives her.

In addition to her husband Virgil of 59 years, Linda is survived by two sons: Dennis Jones and wife Sandy of Tullahoma, TN and Michael Jones and wife Kristy of Kell; four grandchildren: Megan Jones of Tullahoma, Jennifer Jones of Tullahoma, Kevin Jones of Kell, and Ryan Jones of Kell; sisters-in-law: Kathryn Stover of Centralia, Richard and Kay Jones of Mt. Vernon, Jerry and Linda Miller of Dix, and Mike and Debbie Hall of Centralia; and several nieces and nephews.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents: Harold and Maude Smith, father and mother-in-law: Virgil and Louise Jones, and brother-in-law Ronald Stover.
Linda lived in Centralia all of her life. She attended Centralia grade school and graduated from Centralia High School in 1963. Then she attended Mt. Vernon School of Practicing Nursing and graduated in 1964. She was an LPN at Murray Center for 35 years. She was a member of Calumet Street Christian Church, part of the Christian Women’s Fellowship, AFSCME Retirees, and she volunteered at CCBA food pantry. She also enjoyed camping. She was well known for making cookies and sharing them with family and friends. She loved spending time with her sons and their families, especially her grandchildren.

Funeral service for Linda Jones will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2022, at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Bro. Roger Lipe officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia.

A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, October 13, 2022, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Oil Belt Christian Service Camp, Flora, Illinois and can be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, 618-532-3523, which is honored to be of service to the Jones family.
