CENTRALIA — An early Monday morning fire destroyed a warehouse at Dimick and North Walnut in Centralia while city firefighters were able to save another.
Firefighters arrived on scene just before three a.m. and found the first warehouse, which was used by Centralia Home Center, was fully engulfed in flames.
Since the structure has mostly burned to the ground, a backhoe was in place to move debris and to assist firefighters in putting out spot fires.
Firefighters were able to save a second warehouse that was reported to be full of carpet to the east of the one that burned.
The Illinois Fire Marshal’s office is on the scene, but it’s unclear if they will be able to determine a cause due to the amount of damage.
Centralia Fire Protection District, Sandoval, Odin, and Salem firefighters provided mutual aid at the scene.
