MARION COUNTY — First responders were called out twice Tuesday morning to southbound Interstate 57 at the 124 MM for two separate crashes involving semis.
The first call came in around 8:28 a.m. of a semi-truck that had reportedly struck the overpass structure to the Kinmundy exit.
The driver of the truck was reportedly trapped inside and Kinmundy/Alma firefighters had responded to the scene to extricate him from the vehicle and to help a medical chopper land in the area.
Southbound I-57 was blocked due to the crash and traffic was detoured onto Route 37.
A second crash was reported around 11 a.m. Tuesday, also for southbound I-57 at the 124 MM but involving at least three semi-trucks.
Again, Kinmundy/Alma responded to the call and radioed for EMS to expedite to the scene. Two medical choppers were dispatched due to the crash and at least one occupant was reportedly trapped.
Both southbound lanes of traffic were blocked due to the crash and again motorists were detoured away from the crash.
