WAYNE COUNTY, IL — A 24-year-old Sims man could be facing additional charges after reportedly running from correctional employees when being taken back to his cell at the Wayne County Jail and then barricading himself being the booking desk.

Rodney Esmon was already facing charges of passion of methamphetamine and domestic battery in connection with an alleged incident earlier this month where he allegedly battered and stabbed a woman numerous times with a small pocket knife.

As Wayne County Sheriff’s officials investigated that case they reportedly located Esmon hiding under a bed.

During that arrest methamphetamine was also reportedly seized from Esmon.

Whle investigators were questioning Esmon at the Wayne County Jail, he reportedly tried to hold open the door to the jail so that it could not be closed. Correctional staff quickly secured the door and requested back up.

As Esmon was being walked back to his cell he then ran from Correctional staff inside of the secured jail. Esmon attempted to barricade himself behind the booking desk and a Taser was deployed and Esmon was then restrained.

Esmon is currently charged with: Aggravated Domestic Battery, Aggravated Unlawful Restraint, Armed Violence, Theft, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine and Obstructing or Resisting a Peace Officer.
