CENTRALIA, IL — A 36-year-old Centralia man was arrested on domestic battery charges after Centralia police responded Monday when an ambulance was called to 13th Street for an ankle injury. M. Guillermo Ruiz was formally charged Tuesday in Marion County Court with multiple misdemeanor charges for domestic battery and one for resisting police.
According to reports, Ruiz had called for an ambulance at his home but didn’t want to go to the hospital. A woman in the home reportedly told EMTs she’d been battered but Ruiz refused to allow them inside the home to check on her. When police arrived they reportedly knocked multiple times but no one would answer the door. Officers then forced open the door but Ruiz continued to hold the door closed and resisted when they attempted to place him in handcuffs. The side of the woman’s face was reportedly swollen and children in the home told officers Ruiz had struck her.
Bond for Ruiz was set at $2,500 with conditions of release to have no contact with the alleged victim or her residence.
