(MT. VERNON, IL) — Mt. Vernon Police Department on Tuesday responded to the area of 18th and Lamar for a report of a subject armed with a handgun. At 3:19 p.m., Officers began to check the area and located the subject at 19th and Lamar. Upon making contact the subject, 18 year old Lekedrieon Russell, was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun and cannabis.  Russell was taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Justice Center on charges of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm with Defaced Serial Number, No FOID Card and Possession of Cannabis. Russell’s bond is to be set. Russell is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
