EFFINGHAM, IL — A 66-year-old Effingham man has been arrested in connection with an investigation into sexual assaults of multiple children at an in-home daycare. Martin D. Hubbard was arrested Monday on bench warrants charging him with eight counts predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under the age of 13. He was taken to the Effingham County Jail with bond set at $800,000.
If released on bail, Hubbard is to have no contact with anyone under the age of eighteen, no contact with victims or victims’ families, not to be present at any public park nor within five hundred feet of any school, and a GPS device must be affixed to his person. Information on all eight counts was introduced by the Effingham County State’s Attorney’s Office to a grand jury on Wednesday, where the jurors found sufficient evidence and returned bills of indictment for Hubbard on all eight counts. The investigation into this case is ongoing by Effingham City Police and the Effingham County State’s Attorney’s Office. If the Hubbard is convicted on counts involving two different people, he would be subject to a mandatory sentence of natural life in prison.
Hubbard was in court Thursday morning for a pre-trial hearing.
