MT. VERNON, IL — Mt. Vernon police are investigating a Tuesday night armed robbery on the city’s northeast side.
According to MVPD, around 8:07 p.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the Casey’s General Store at 1400 Salem Road for a report of an armed robbery. The ensuing investigation determined the offender was a heavy-set black male wearing grey sweatpants, a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt and a gator-type face mask. The offender displayed a handgun and left with an undetermined amount of cash. The offender left eastbound from the business on a bicycle. Citizens in this area are encouraged to check their security systems and advise local authorities if they may have captured images of a person meeting the description of the offender.
