Robert “Bob” Bauer, 77, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 9:48 am June 26, 2021 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon. He was born September 29, 1943 in Bloomington, Illinois to the late P. James and Opal (Roper) Bauer. Bob married Donna (Halliburton) Bauer on December 16, 1973. They were blessed with nearly 48 years of marriage.
In addition to his beloved wife, Bob is survived by his children, Chris Hayes and husband, James of Mount Vernon, Diana Bauer and husband, Ray Bruce of Mount Vernon, Gene Bauer and wife, Page of Texico, Illinois, Bobbie Jo Bauer of Saint Louis, Missouri, Les Bauer and wife, Carla of Woodlawn, Illinois, and Nikki Prost and husband, Brian of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Darrell Hayes and wife, Mary, Darrin Hayes and boyfriend Shane Cohn, Josh Bauer, Colton Bauer-Greer and wife, Christina, Dylan Hayes and wife, Sierra, Jacob, DaCota Bauer and wife, Claire, Austin Bauer and fiance, Leslie Dent, Camilla Bauer, Jordyn Dial and husband, Oakley, Gabriella Bauer, Carson Prost, Rianna Bauer, Sabrina Bauer, Callie Prost, Alex Bauer, Trinten Bauer, Eli Prost, Aspen Bauer, Brenden Bauer, Sophie Bauer, Alex Prost, and Jayden Bauer; great-grandchildren, Rylie Bauer, Claire Hayes, Caid Greer, Brantley Hayes, Hudson Hayes, Maggie Bauer, Ezra Hayes, Cameron Greer, and three more great-grandchildren on-the-way; brother, Orland Bauer; sisters-in-Law, Jo Vance and husband, Norm and Penny Burton; and brothers-in-law, Rodger Halliburton and wife, Cathy and Michael McClanahan and wife, Marsha.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Peyton Bauer; brother, James Bauer; and sister-in-law, Linda Bauer. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. from 1961-1967 during the Vietnam Era. He retired as a dispatcher for the Mount Vernon City Police Department. Bob also worked in car sales and he and his wife managed rental properties. He was an avid MVTHS Rams basketball fan, and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Bob was an awesome handyman. He was a man of great faith and loved his church and Jesus. Bob was devoted to his wife and loved his family dearly. He will greatly missed, until we meet again.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2021 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Central Christian Church in Mount Vernon. A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at 10:30 am at Central Christian Church with Mr. Randy Sells officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. The American Legion Post #141 will conduct full military honors at the cemetery. Memorials may be made in Bob’s honor to MVTHS Rams Basketball.
