Larry D. Johnson, 81, graduated to his heavenly home on April 16, 2021. He was born in Decatur to the late Dean and Martha (Whitney) Johnson on March 16, 1940.

Larry’s personality was bigger than life. He was an encourager to anyone who needed a friend. When he was a Deputy Sheriff in Macon County, even the prisoners asked for him when being transported. He was a dedicated husband, father, son, and friend. Larry never met a stranger and if he did, he would immediately introduce himself to make a new friend.

Larry was married to Glenda (Rector) Johnson, the love of his life for 31 years.

He attended SIU Carbondale and U of I in Champaign. Larry retired as a Marketing Director at Isringhausen Imports in Springfield, Illinois. Prior to that position, he was their top salesman for many months.

Larry loved Jesus, his family, and cars, as well as the Saint Louis Cardinals. Larry and Glenda are members of Central Christian Church in Mount Vernon.

In addition to his beloved wife, Larry is survived by his children, Tammy Prince, Jeff Johnson, Sheli Graven and husband, Andy; stepdaughter, Lynda Elenor and husband, Simon; grandchildren, Hailey Graven and fiancé, Lacey Whitaker, Mariah Graven, Gentry Prince, Mallory Ratliff, Jeremy Hatch, Jonathan Hatch, and Joshua Hatch; and great-grandchildren, Za’Niah Edwards and Za’Kai Edwards and their father, Derez Edwards.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by Glenda’s parents, Thurman and Opal Rector; and her son, Roger Ratliff.

Larry was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
