MARION COUNTY, IL — For over 35 years, communities across the world have come together once a year to honor and remember loved ones lost to cancer. Relay for Life events are made up of survivors, caregivers, volunteers and participants who believe in a cure someday.

Last year, Relay for Life events in both Centralia and Salem were cancelled due to COVID-19 concerns. Despite event fundraising goals totaling less than prior years, the passion of volunteers continued to rise. Christy Krieg says despite all the negatives of the pandemic, the two organizations coming together is a major positive.

The date for the Relay for Life of Marion County will be Saturday, June 12th from 5-10pm at Centralia High School. Krieg says as of now, this year’s event will be drive-thru only.
