Ernest H. Carter, 81, a resident of McLeansboro, IL and formerly of Mt. Vernon, IL passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 at Pixel Place residential living center in McLeansboro.

Ernest was born May 28, 1939 in Mt. Vernon, IL to his parents Henry and Marina (Rhodes) Carter.

Ernest had attended the Summersville Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon and enjoyed going to the Sunshine Center in Mt. Vernon to visit and enjoy a nice meal.  He enjoyed singing church songs, and his favorite was “The Old Rugged Cross.”  When Ernest was younger, he worked at the Mt. Vernon downtown barber shop shining shoes.

He is survived by a twin sister Ernestine and a niece Kim.  He was preceded in death by both parents.

A memorial service will be held for Ernest H. Carter from 11am – 12 noon on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at the Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens Chapel, east of Woodlawn, IL.

Those attending will be required to follow all safety guidelines, including wearing a mask.
