JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Illinois Department of Public Health Friday identified Jefferson County as a county showing warning signs of increased spread of the novel coronavirus.

According to the IDPH, Jefferson County’s test positivity rate between August 2nd and August 8th was 14.8 percent for the 589 tests performed in the county in that time frame.

Also in the orange warning level is Clinton, Franklin, and Perry counties.

On Friday, the Jefferson County Health Department reported six new positive cases of COVID-19 in the county.

Two of the six are males in their 20’s, along with a male in his 50’s, a female in her 50’s, a male in his 60’s, and a female in her 70’s.

There are now 84 active cases of the novel coronavirus in Jefferson County that are in isolation.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 2,264 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday. That is the most new cases in the state in a single day since May 24th, less than a week before Illinois started the  Governor’s five-phase re-opening process.
