MT. VERNON — Mt. Vernon City Clerk Mary Jo Pemberton has released information regarding filing for candidacy in the spring 2021 municipal elections.

Beginning Tuesday, August 25th, through Monday, November 23rd, interested candidates can come to Mt. Vernon City Hall during business hours to be issued candidate petitions for the 2021 consolidated primary elections to be held on February 23, 2021. If no primary is required, the candidate’s name will appear on the 2021 consolidated election ballot to be held on April 6, 2021.

The Mt. Vernon Mayor, City Clerk, City Treasurer, and two city council seats are up for election in the spring election.

While petitions can be issued starting Tuesday, August 25th, the petition filing period will be from November 16th through the 23rd during regular business hours at Mt. Vernon City Hall.

In the last mayoral election, 2,868 ballots were cast. The number of signatures for nominating petitions for the for the 2021 election is 1% of the total vote from the last mayoral election, or a minimum of 29 signatures.
