HARRISBURG — Rides Mass Transit District has recently been announced as a recipient of a federal grant to provide the district extra resources during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The district is receiving almost $2.5 million through the CARES Act to help cover the extra costs to sanitize and promote social distancing on their busses.

Jeffrey Drake is the operations manager for RMTD. He says the transit service has taken many steps in recent months to ensure the well-being of riders.

Drake says there has been a drop in ridership since the beginning of the pandemic, but RMTD has still provided transportation for those who need it and the district has partnered with many senior centers and other local organizations during the pandemic to deliver meals to seniors and others who may not be able to get out.
