Robert J. “Heavy” Phelps, 72, of Kingston, Oklahoma, and formerly of Jefferson County, Illinois, passed away June 3, 2020, in Highlands, Texas.

He was born in Jefferson County, Illinois, the son of Charles Alva and Wilma (Bartelmay) Phelps.

Bob was a Construction Superintendent over many jobs in Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, St. Croix, and in several states.  He built gold mines, chemical plants, and nuclear power plants.

He is survived by two sisters, Bonnie Phelps Sheets of Wood River, Illinois, and Barbara Phelps Nelson of Orange, California;  one honorary son, Kelly Nelson of Highlands, Texas; and one sister-in-law, Vera Phelps of Richview, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Alva and Wilma (Bartelmay) Phelps;  two infant sisters, Betty Jo and Wilma Darlene;  and two brothers, Richard C. and Larry Lee.

Funeral services for Mr. Phelps will be held at Noon, Friday, June 12, 2020, at Calvary United Pentecostal Church, located at 406 N. 44th Street, in Mt.
