MT. VERNON — COVID-19 is already taking a toll on government budgets from the federal all the way down to the local level. Local communities are having to cut back their spending in anticipation of less tax revenue.

While the city of Mt. Vernon has multiple capital projects officials are looking to complete in the upcoming months, it is not known yet if lost tax revenue will impact the status of those projects. But Mt. Vernon mayor John Lewis says one project that is his top priority is adding more cameras to the MVPD’s city camera system.

The city is looking to add 10 to 15 more cameras on the city’s southside if money if available.
