CENTRALIA, IL — A 17-year-old Centralia juvenile has been arrested on multiple charges including attempted murder in connection with a shooting incident Saturday afternoon. According to Centralia Police Chief Greg Dodson, officers responded at 3:22 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the 800 block of Jackson Street in Centralia. Dodson says the juvenile suspect is a known gang member and has been involved and or mentioned in several other cases involving shots fired.
When officers arrived in the area they were then told the victim had fled to the 700 block of North Lincoln Street and wished to speak to an officer. Officers made contact with an 18 year old Centralia man Davion J. Martin, who stated he had been the victim in the shooting and he could identify the 17-year-old juvenile who fired the shots. He said the juvenile was angry with him over a past dispute and started an altercation while he was visiting a residence in the 800 block of Jackson.
According to Martin, the juvenile retrieved a gun and started firing at him. Martin then got in his vehicle in order to flee the area but the juvenile continued to fire shots at Martin while in his car. Police located five bullet holes in the vehicle. Two of the holes came through the front windshield. Police believe 10 to 14 shots were fired at the victim during the altercation.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the Salem Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious person. SPD located and took the juvenile suspect from the shooting into custody. He was then transported to the Marion Co. Sheriff’s Department for questioning by the Centralia Police Department. CPD detectives attempted to interview the suspect but he reportedly refused to give any statement.
