William Henderson Jr., “Bill” born October 22, 1948 an angel from Heaven and a saint on earth for putting up with MaryAnn (Coleman) Henderson for forty-seven years of marriage, was called to his heavenly home on May 9, 2020, and reunited with his son, Brian, and parents, Bill and Rhea.

Bill worked at Continental Tire for thirty-five years before retiring. He was nominated as a 2019 Jefferson County Senior Saint. He served as Mayor of Bluford for several terms and then a member of the Board before his failing health.

All who knew Bill will appreciate his love for baseball, especially the Philadelphia Phillies. Without Bill, Bluford and Webber Township would have never known and experienced baseball the way they did, and certainly not to the level of success seen in this area. Through baseball, Bill provided a supportive and reliable activity that many children otherwise would not have had without his drive and commitment.

To his family, Bill was a steady and calm force; a man of few words, but could express his disappointment with a mere glance, a look well known to his children.

To his friends, he was fair and honest, a man of integrity, who loved a good baseball game and a cold Budweiser.

Bill is survived by his loving partner in shenanigans, wife, MaryAnn; children, Billy (Laura) Henderson; Greta (Ken) Gartin, Zack (Heather) Henderson, and Marbisa Ortega. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian and his parents, Bill and Rhea.

He was a loving Pop to Alexandria (Jesse) Brown, Kaden Henderson, John, Andrew, and Elizabeth Barnett, Jacob Ware, Ty Henderson, Michael Gartin, Jason (Lacey) Henderson, Dylan Henderson, and Samuel, Caleb, and Zoey Henderson; as well as six great-grandchildren.

If you wish, donations may be made in Bill’s honor to the Salvation Army or to the charity of your choice. Feel free to raise a hoppy pint and tell your best Bill Henderson or baseball story.

He leaves a legacy of integrity and goodness to be carried on through his family. We are left with these wise words, to be applied to both baseball and life: “See the ball. Hit the ball.” Thanks, Pop.
