POPE COUNTY — A 45-year-old man died over the weekend after falling while hiking at the Shawnee National Forest.

Pope County Sheriff Jerry Suits says they received the 9-1-1 call around 2 p.m. Saturday for a man who had fallen at Jackson Falls in the county.

When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they found the man had already succumbed to his injuries.

Suits says the man is from the Paducah area, but his identity has not been released at this time.

In addition to the Pope County Sheriff’s Office, the Pope County Rural Fire Department, Pope County Ambulance Service, and the U.S. Forest Service all assisted at the scene.
