MT. VERNON, IL — The Mt. Vernon City Council approved the construction of a new post office at the corner of 10th & Jordan during their February 18th meeting. City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel says despite all the changes going on with the COVID-19 pandemic, construction is still on time to be completed by mid August.

The cost of building the post office for the city will be $895,000. USPS should be in and running sometime in September if the current timeline still holds up.
