MT. VERNON — Today is the 108th anniversary of the founding of the Girls Scouts of the U.S.A., and in Mt. Vernon, mayor John Lewis has signed a proclamation honoring the local girls scouts and urging citizens to support these future leaders of the community.

Sheila Jolly-Scrivner is the Jefferson County Girl Scout Service Unit Director. She says the organization continues to provide plenty of opportunities for area girls.

For more information on how to join or volunteer with your local girl scout chapter, we have a link to their website here.

And for those of you looking for girls scout cookies, they will be sold for a couple more weeks.
