MT. VERNON, IL — The Mt. Vernon City Council unanimously passed an ordinance granting conditional use for a cannabis dispensary at 1000/1002/1004 Main Street. Starbuds Illinois, LLC was the petitioning party at Monday’s meeting and gave a presentation attempting to alleviate any concerns by the council or general public.
Rex Cusumano with Downtown Development Corporation spoke on behalf of the petitioning party.
The city of Mt. Vernon passed ordinances giving the city control of where cannabis-related businesses would be at their July 15th meeting. Other southern Illinois communities such as Marion and Murphysboro have voted to not allow recreational marijuana in their communities.
Recreational cannabis will become legal across Illinois on January 1st.
