CARBONDALE — Authorities in Carbondale are investigating an incident Monday that resulted in a 5-year-old child being shot.

According to Carbondale police, the girl was injured around 11:30 Monday morning.

They say the child was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale where she was stabilized before being transferred to a St. Louis hospital for further treatment.

Three juvenile suspects have reportedly been taken into custody in connection with the shooting, but authorities aren’t providing any other information at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
