MT. VERNON — A Mt. Vernon city council member is expected to resign and a new member is expected to be appointed and sworn in at Monday’s city council meeting.

Mt. Vernon City Manager Mary Ellen Bechtel confirmed to (WMIX / WDML) News that councilman Jim Rippy has sent her an email letter notifying her of his intention to resign from the city council. Rippy served on the council since 2017.

The meeting Monday is scheduled to begin with recognition of council Rippy, followed by the acceptance of his resignation and a declaration of a vacancy of the city council.

Also on the agenda, Mt. Vernon mayor John Lewis is expected to appoint a new city council member and that member will be sworn in.

In other business, the council is expected to review bid results for the 12th Street overlay project and hear the first reading of an ordinance amendment regarding truck stop zoning.
