Mary Maxine Cross, 84, a resident of Dahlgren, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.

She was born August 9, 1935 in Dahlgren, IL, the daughter of Bill and Madalyn Parkhill.  She married James William Cross on January 31, 1951 and he preceded her in death.  Mary was a home maker and also worked at the former Elder Mfg. Company in McLeansboro and Dowzer Electric in Mt. Vernon. She was member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and later the Dahlgren Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons: William “Bud” (wife Ellen) Cross of Riverton, IL and J.D. (wife Jean) Cross of Dahlgren, IL; four daughters: Viola (husband Rusty) Nolen of Dahlgren, IL, Betty (husband Mike) Oliver of Mt. Vernon, IL, Pauline Bellamy (and friend Janice Franklin) of Dahlgren, IL and Mary Jo (husband Keith) Kline of Salem, IL; brothers: James (wife Cindy) Parkhill of Bicknell, IN and David (wife Joyce) Parkhill of Mt. Vernon, IL; and sister, Retha (husband Tom) Rawls of Dahlgren, IL.  Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
 
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one daughter, Kay Blain.
 
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren with Rev. David Schlag officiating.  Visitation will be held Sunday, August 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren.  She will be laid to rest at the Middle Creek Cemetery near Dahlgren.  Memorial donations may be made to the Middle Creek Cemetery Upkeep Fund or the Dahlgren Baptist Church.
