MT. VERNON — A Mt. Vernon man is in custody after he made threats to his boss at Walmart and tried to disarm a police officer as police were attempting to arrest him Tuesday.
Mt. Vernon Police Chief Trent Page says 27-year-old Charles Bowers of Mt. Vernon was first reported to authorities by his boss at Walmart. The victim told dispatch that Bowers had threatened him and battered him after terminating Bowers. Bowers was not at Walmart when police arrived.
After further investigation, police attempted to arrest Bowers for the morning incident at his home in the 300 block of Bell St. later Tuesday evening. Page says Bowers became violent with officers and attempted to disarm an officer during the arrest. Police were able to place Bowers under arrest without anyone being seriously hurt.
Bowers is facing charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer, attempting to disarm an officer, battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting a peace officer.
