MARION/WASHINGTON/RANDOLPH COUNTY — Two Missouri residents were arrested Tuesday following a more than 30-minute pursuit that started in Centralia, wound through multiple jurisdictions and involved shots being fired at officers from the sunroof of the vehicle being pursued.
According to Centralia Police Chief Brian Atchison, 40-year-old Jared Michael Queen of St. Clair, Missouri, and his 40- year-old passenger Maria Angelina Moore, of Wright City, Missouri, were ultimately arrested in Coulterville, in Randolph County, Illinois.
Centralia officers initially attempted an investigative stop on Queen’s vehicle around 10:40 Tuesday morning at Broadway and Hickory, after receiving a report of a man battering someone in the back seat of a car matching the description of Queen’s vehicle. The car, however, sped away from the attempted stop at a high rate of speed.
Officers pursued the vehicle south toward Wamac, and then southbound on U.S. 51 to Irvington before speeding west on Route 177 toward Hoyleton.
While speeding along Route 177, Queen reportedly began firing a rifle at officers from the driver’s door. Moore allegedly began firing at officers from the vehicle’s sunroof as they approached Oakdale.
The pursuit continued through Washington County and into Randolph County, with the chase ending in Coulterville.
Queen was taken into custody for alleged driving while license revoked, aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude, no insurance, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of firearm ammunition by a felon, aggravated discharge of a firearm, criminal damage to state-supported property, armed violence and resisting arrest.
Moore was taken into custody for alleged possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of firearm ammunition by a felon, aggravated discharge of a firearm, criminal damage state-supported property, and resisting arrest.
