CARBONDALE — A male juvenile is being detained at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center – charged with aggravated fleeing to elude, possession of a stolen vehicle and reckless driving – after allegedly stealing a vehicle over the weekend and leading Carbondale Police on a chase in it early Tuesday morning.
Carbondale Police investigated a vehicle theft from the 800 block of Old Highway 13 Sunday, Then at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Carbondale Police, with help from SIU Police, found the stole vehicle in the area of Poplar and Walnut streets. The suspect driver refused to stop for officers and eluded officers through the city.
The juvenile crashed the vehicle in the 200 block of North Illinois Avenue and officers arrested him. He suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. He was treated and released from Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
As a result of the suspect refusing to stop, there was damage to yards and landscaping at privately owned properties as well as city owned property.
